Action Anime Reviews: Area 88

Area 88At first glance this looks like a pretty lame anime, the storyline follows a pilot who was tricked by an old friend into joining an elite fighter group out in Area 88, and his struggles with humanity and love. But in fact, there is something very attractive about this anime, something I can't quite put my finger on. The animation itself is top notch, as good as it gets by todays standards. The voice acting, sound and music is great. And although the storyline seems dull, this actually turned out to be quite good. There is no supernatural force, or over exposure of animated women. No super suprises or depth of thought to figuring out what's going on, still this anime somehow draws you in with its depth of character development, beautiful animation and feeling. It might be more or less the aspect of the human struggle to stay alive seen on the faces of all the characters, or sometimes lack there of that drives you to watch. All in all I recommend this anime to all who like drama and action anime genres, if even just to figure out why this anime is so likable.
