MascaMasca, is one those manga novels that you pass by on the shelf and think nothing of. The cover art isn't too eye catching and the back cover overview doesn't do the storyline any justice. Which is a shame because this book is fantastic. The book takes place in 223 rd century, where magic and sorcery are commonplace. A young female mage apprentice by the name of Astrella, ends up in the castle of a devil, and to her surprise the devil is nothing like what she expected. From all of the stories she had heard about devils spreading death and destruction everywhere they go, young Astrella was awe struck to find the devil to be not only intriguing, but attractive. Eliwho, a several hundred year old mage and teacher to Astrella, allowed Astrella to go and try to retrieve a prince and several women said to have been kidnapped by the devil. Yet from the moment Astrella arrived at the devil's castle, things were not what she expected.
This manga novel is full of fun surprises, comedic mishaps and a number of exciting twists. The love triangle between Astrella, the devil and Eliwho, make this book a pleasure to read and give the storyline miles of choices to keep the series interesting. The character art inside the book is done very well. The storyline is laid out is such away that you are kept glued to this novel almost the entire way through. I highly recommend this manga novel to all fans of the fantasy genre.
